Product details

Brand: Open Safety
The iBreathe Respiratory Simulator MkIV provides the fastest test environment for respiratory testing of breathing equipment, including PPO2 control, WOB and resistance. It runs test sequences in minutes or hours that hitherto have taken days and weeks on first generation machines such as ANSTI and mechanical linkage machines. The time savings come from complete automation, allowing the user to do all tests in a single chamber run, without having to surface each time to change tidal volumes. The final report document is generated in real time, and saved on demand.

This 4th Generation machine provides larger tidal volumes and supports higher RMVs than older 2nd Generation breathing machines: tidal volumes to 6 litres, and RMVs to 180 lpm. The breathing machine may be immersed in water in test chambers, with the hyperbaric option, for pressure testing from full vacuum down to 1000m (3300ft). The entire simulator is portable.
The respiratory simulator comprises a full 4 Quadrant CNC controlled breathing machine that offers all combinations of breathing rate, stroke, waveform (sine, trapezoidal and human breathing patterns), and temperature, with real time display of results via an easy-to-use LabView graphical user interface. The simulator is fully CE certified, calibrated and generates reports automatically into Word or PDF formats that can achieve an ISO 17025 test traceability, meeting the requirements of even the most stringent of audits and Notified Bodies.

Units Supply Voltage
Min: 24VDC@10A
Max: 36VDC@10A VDC

External Power Supply
Min: 100V
Max: 240V VAC

Max Supply Power: 600 W
Weight 25.8 (hyperbaric) / 21.5 (non -hyperbaric) kg

iBreathe MkIII breathing simulator used in 2017 as the sole method of measuring Work of Breathing, respiratory resistance and VWAI CO2 for certification purposes. As at June 2020 the iBreathe MkIV is now in serial production offering more accuracy and larger tidal volumes over the MkIII. The MkIV is also more tolerant of poor cables between the computer and machine, or noise on any cabling from heavy machinery operating nearby. The current generation is the culmination of 16 years of EN250 and EN14143 testing: the first generation of machines were developed in 2005 when the limits of ANSTI testers were causing too much time to be wasted.

Open Safety and its parent, Deep Life, developed this new generation of digital hyperbaric respiratory simulator to enable their equipment to be tested more thoroughly, and faster than ever before. Enabling cost-effective, in-house R&D and OT&E by both ourselves and external customers, whom have suitable hyperbaric chamber infrastructure. These respiratory simulators are supplied fully calibrated and are acceptable to all Notified Bodies. These machines provide all the WOB and similar curves at a press of a button, display everything in real time; even generating the CE compliance Word document with the results nicely set out automatically.

Breathing rate, stroke, waveform shape (supporting sine, human breathing waveforms, trapezoids as standard), temperature etc is all controlled by a very easy to use Labview GUI: essentially. They can work to 1000m (3300ft) depth for the physical unmanned testing of rebreathers in pressure vessels.

Available as an option is a small respiratory mass spectrometer that integrates with this hyperbaric breathing simulator, e.g. for CO2, O2 and other tests to ISO 17025 level, giving unprecedented resolution, accuracy and speed in tests.
